Nintendo is set to unveil key details about its highly anticipated successor to the Switch in an upcoming presentation, drawing excitement from gaming enthusiasts and investors alike.
The Japanese gaming giant will host the hour-long event at 13:00 GMT on Wednesday, where it is expected to reveal the price and release date of the new console. The presentation follows a brief teaser video released in mid-January, which confirmed the existence of the next-generation system.
The teaser showcased a design similar to the original Switch, featuring a larger screen while retaining its hybrid handheld and home console functionality. It also offered a glimpse of the next installment in the beloved Mario Kart franchise.
While Nintendo has yet to disclose the console’s technical specifications, it has confirmed backward compatibility with original Switch games.
The Nintendo Switch remains the third best-selling gaming console in history, trailing only Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s DS handheld. Its immense success revitalized the company after the disappointing performance of the Wii U.
Investor confidence in the Switch 2 has driven Nintendo’s stock up by more than 28 percent over the past year, outperforming the broader Japanese market despite a general downturn.
