Alibaba Cloud Expands into Latin America with First Cloud Region in Mexico

Alibaba Cloud has officially entered the Latin American market with the launch of its first cloud region in Mexico, strengthening its global presence. The new cloud infrastructure in Querétaro expands Alibaba Cloud’s global footprint to 87 availability zones across 29 regions.

The company initially established a customer service center in Mexico City in 2022 to support regional clients. The newly launched cloud region features one availability zone, though Alibaba Cloud has not disclosed investment details.

“We are not only bringing world-class cloud technology to support local businesses but also fostering an inclusive and thriving ecosystem in Mexico,” said Selina Yuan, Head of International Business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “Together with our local partners, developers, and customers, we aim to drive innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth across Latin America.”

Beyond Mexico, Alibaba Cloud has network nodes in the US and Brazil and serves clients in Latin America’s telecom market through its partner, Whale Cloud.

As part of its investment strategy in Mexico, the company plans to collaborate with universities and educational institutions to develop local talent. Additionally, it will support SMEs in adopting cloud technology and organize developer programs, hackathons, and technology workshops.

Alibaba Cloud has also partnered with local firms like Soft180, Contpaqi, Coonectate, UST, Sobot, Viko, YunTek, VDE Suite, and Dexmi to provide consulting and industry-specific cloud solutions. The company’s cloud product suite includes elastic computing, storage, networking, container, and security services.

The move follows AWS’s recent launch of its first cloud region in Mexico, part of a US$5 billion investment commitment over 15 years. According to the Mexican Datacenter Association (MEXDC), the industry is expected to attract US$9.19 billion in direct investments and US$27 billion in indirect investments over the next five years, supporting the construction of more than 70 data centers.
